Maaling Avl & Opformering tells: This is where I got the idea for my ESG initiatives
Maaling Avl & Opformering is a major player in genetics in Denmark. The farm likes to find inspiration for the development of the award-winning breeding farm at NutriFair - especially inspiration for ESG, which means a lot to the farm. Among other things, the seeds for new sustainability initiatives were sown at NutriFair after inspiring conversations at the fair.
The restructuring of the Danish pig farms is in full swing, which has only become even more relevant after the agreement on the implementation of the green tripartite was reached. It is a change that is necessary for the survival of the industry, because efficiency and reduction must be made if we in Denmark are to continue to be the green pioneer country we are known to be.
Therefore, it is more obvious than ever to look for inspiration on how to make your business more efficient in the best possible and most painless way. And here networking and knowledge sharing are alpha and omega – Maaling Avl & Opformering fulfills this, among other things, by participating annually at the NutriFair fair.
Claus Petersen, who propagates elite genes at the farm Maaling Avl & Opformering, says that he has found inspiration for several of the sustainability initiatives that have been introduced at the farm at the NutriFair fair. As you know, ESG requirements occupy a lot of space in agriculture these years. That is why it is important to get new inspiration that can drive development forward, he says.
Elite breeders lead the way
Claus Petersen from Maaling Avl & Opformering is a well-known name in the pig industry. Maaling previously had the best land race herd in Denmark five years in a row. In addition, they also breed the Duroc breed.
"We take a lot of interest in our breeding work and think it's insanely exciting. There is sport in refining the genes we have built up in our animals, so that we can get them out and work in other pig herds - both in Denmark and in the rest of the world. It is a great motivation for us," says Claus Petersen.
And the good genes benefit the whole world, because the more we can get out of less, the better off Danish agriculture is when the green transition is to be driven forward.
It is a development that Maaling Avl & Opformering is helping to drive forward on several parameters. Blue. have you introduced several ESG initiatives at the farm, initiatives that Claus Petersen, among other things, finds inspiration for when he is at NutriFair.
Was inspired by sustainability initiatives at NutriFair
ESG work is taking up a lot of space at the moment for Danish manufacturers. Demands are made both from above and below in relation to being able to document that agricultural production is moving in a more sustainable direction.
Claus Petersen has also worked intensively with the implementation of ESG measures. Among other things, he got the inspiration for which initiatives make sense in his business by meeting colleagues and gathering inspiration at the NutriFair trade fair.
"I believe that my participation at NutriFair has given me better conditions to be able to initiate the ESG measures we have started with. The fair is a good size, so there is time for in-depth conversations with both colleagues and exhibitors," he says and continues:
"At NutriFair, I can get around to exhibitors and business partners in one day without having to stress. That's why I always get good and thorough inspiration home in relation to the professional - among other things in relation to ESG."
Gathers inspiration for both politics and production
Claus Petersen has been a visitor to NutriFair since the fair started. This is due, among other things, to the fact that the fair is specialized in livestock production, and therefore there is really time to go in depth with the professional aspects of pig breeding.
"At NutriFair, I find out what's going on in the industry, and I always come home with new professional input. It doesn't matter whether it applies to politics, production or feed – there is always new knowledge to be gained," explains Claus Petersen.
The inspiration that Claus Petersen gets at the fair also rubs off on his employees, which the grower is happy about.
"I think that our employees have got our approach to breeding and propagation completely under their skin in a really good way - they also fully agree that there is sport involved in making good genetics, and I am glad that they share our motivation and enthusiasm for," concludes Claus Petersen.
